Carubin is produced from carob seeds. Locust bean gum is a thickening and stabilising substance which is found in cosmetic products and food. Locust bean gum swells in cold water and forms a sticky solution when heated up to 80 degrees Celsius. After cooling, a sticky product is formed. Locust bean gum is very often found as a natural binding agent in cosmetic products. It is also added to modelling, firming body lotions and moisturising creams.

In cosmetics, locust bean gum is mainly used as a humectant, binding agent, stabiliser and protective substance. It provides moisture and keeps water in the skin and hair.

Locust bean gum makes the skin supple and smooth and forms a protective film on skin, hair or nails when applied. It increases or reduces the viscosity (toughness) of cosmetic products, suppresses or slows down the unwanted inherent odour or taste of a product. It also supports the cohesion of individual product components.

Furthermore, locust bean gum contains many vitamins and minerals such as

vitamins:

Vitamin C; thiamine; riboflavin; niacin; vitamin B6; folic acid; vitamin A and vitamin E

minerals:

Calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc
