Harpagophytum Procumbens Root Extract (Devil's claw extract, organic)

Devil's claw has an anti-inflammatory, metabolism-promoting, pain-relieving and circulation-enhancing effect.

For our gel with arnica and devil's claw, we only use devil's claw extract from controlled organic cultivation.

Preparations from the roots of the devil's claw Harpagophytum procumbens, native to southern Africa, are said to have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. They are used for the treatment of pain in cases of diseases of the locomotor system (e.g. arthrosis), back pain. Characteristic ingredients are iridoids such as the glycoside harpagoside and the aglycon harpagide.

Devil's claw is a medicinal plant originating from the south of Africa, which is mainly used for rheumatic complaints and joint pain. The Devil's Claw got its name mainly from its fruits, which are claw-like, waiting on the ground for passing animals. However, the distinctive roots of Devil's Claw, which are rich in valuable bitter substances, are of medical value.

Devil's Claw is said to have the following healing effects: it has anti-inflammatory, metabolism-promoting, pain-relieving and circulation-promoting properties.

These versatile effects allow the medicinal plant to be used for the following complaints: Rheumatism, chronic back pain, tension headaches, slipped discs (pain relief), lumboischialgia (pain in the lower back that typically radiates into one leg), neuralgia (pain in the nerves), fibromyalgia (fibre-muscle pain), gout and arthritis.

Today, one of the main areas of application of Devil's Claw is in the treatment of rheumatic diseases as well as in the treatment of general complaints of the joints or the musculoskeletal system in general. The ingredients can directly intervene in the metabolism as well as in various inflammatory and pain reactions. The iridoid glycosides contained in the root are particularly relevant, such as the harpagoside. Typical, therefore, is the use of Devil's Claw ointment or extracts for chronic back pain, pain in the lumbar spine (lumboischialgia) or for general muscle complaints.

For rheumatic complaints and pain in the spine, joints and intervertebral discs, ointments are usually the first choice. Devil's claw ointments have the advantage that they can be applied exactly where the pain is located.
